What happens in Science stays in Science!

When I was in school, I disliked science because my science teachers and I did not get along. It was more my fault, but they still influenced the way I thought about science. The first thing my science lecturer said was 'Do you like science' and I said 'NO'. I gave no reason and no explanation, so she asked me to explain. I just said how I did not get along with the science teachers, leading me to dislike science. She agreed if the child does not like the teacher, they are more than likely to dislike the lesson.

Our science sessions were amazing, I had a brilliant lecturer and she made science fun and filled it with enjoyment. I am going to go into depth about what we learnt about in the science lecture.

You start off learning about the National Curriculum and how science fits into it. The National Curriculum explains how science should be taught and what modules need to be covered for each key stage.

Here is the National Curriculum:

One of our lectures included lots of different experiments, including folding paper into a flower, putting it into water and seeing if it unfolds. If that is something you are interested in finding out, the link is here: https://nustem.uk/activity/floating-flowers/

A resource we used was this website link: https://www.j2e.com/j2data

This website allowed us to learn about branching databases and how you would use this website and incorporate it into the lessons.

In another lecture, we went on to look at nature and the importance of it for children. We visited a nursery for another lecture to look at how they incorporate science throughout the nursery, inside and out. It was so interesting to visit this nursery because they are called a free-flow nursery, which is where the children can go anywhere they want, upstairs, downstairs and outside, no matter what.

We looked at Beach Schools too, which is very common where my university is as there is a beach there. The lecture did go to the beach, however I was not feeling too good and skipped it.

For the last few weeks, we worked out our essay which had the question of Why and How Science Should be Taught to develop a scientifically literate population.

After a long hard day of lecturing (2 hours), I went back to my boyfriend! We got dinner from the canteen and then we could not sleep so we ate pizza at 3:00 am. University is so weird, everyone is awake between 3:00 am and 6:00 am, so we ended up in a bad pattern of sleeping during the day and being awake at night and eating pizza for 2 weeks in a row at 3:00 am.

Quote of the blog:

I feel this quote is a powerful one, not one related to this blog, but very powerful and makes you question a lot.
