Foundation Knowledge and Skills

One of our lectures was called Foundation Knowledge and Skills which is where we learnt about writing essays. I had no idea they had a lecture for this. Of course, it was boring, but I have to say my essay skills got so much better from this lecture.

You start by looking at what critical thinking is and then what a good critical thinker is, why it can be hard and how to think critically. A summary of this is that a critical thinker figures out whether it is something you should believe in and how strongly. a good critical thinker will conclude opinions using evidence. It is difficult to be a critical thinker because we rate evidence as good and bad. The way to become a critical thinker is by asking questions.

We looked at different learning styles, take the test and DM me on Instagram (cc29397) what learner you are. https://www.mint-hr.com/mumford/

I was more of a reflector and pragmatist.

We looked at what labelling does to a human, which I remember learning in year 10 sociology. When labelling a student or human a label they are more likely to accept the label and live up to it. For example, if we call a child naughty and he hears us calling him he will continue to be naughty throughout his school life because that is the label he has been given.

You look at why research is important and how to structure PEEL paragraphs which is something you learn in year 7, so if you have forgotten and you are in this lecture, you get a reminder.

We looked at what communication is, what types of communication there are and understanding how the brain works.

We had to do an essay on Personal Development, this is where we talked about something difficult in our life and how we overcame it. To be honest this also did spark some bad, negative feelings for me because we looked at some hard bits of our life.

Quote of the blog:

The quote above suits this blog as in the lecture you learn about being a critical thinker and what a good critical thinker does. This quote tells you where critical thinkers go and that is their creative side comes out.
