A weekend away

Thanksgiving occurred on the 23rd of November, however, a situation arose where my mum could not celebrate it and I was not at home to do the family tradition.

I finished my lecture at midday and went to the canteen to get some drinks for the ride home. The best app for trains is Trainline and as a student, you can get a discount on a rail card which is very useful. I made it home, it was the weirdest feeling ever. It was the first time I went home, not only did I miss my boyfriend, but it did not feel like my house.
Only university students can explain how much of a guest they feel when they arrive home. I asked my mum and dad where to put things and if it was okay to borrow something. This feeling does go away after some time. I remember sitting on the sofa and just crying because it was the first time away from my boyfriend and I just felt odd.
Our family tradition for Thanksgiving is we put the tree up and decorate it and then we have a Thanksgiving dinner which includes, turkey, sweet potatoes and marshmallows, green bean casserole, potatoes and more.

On the day of going back to university, my sister makes me the best breakfast in the world, this includes a smoothie, eggs, avocado and oats, yoghurt and berries with honey mixed.
My mum, dad and sister drove me back to university and when we arrived my sister and I walked towards my
accommodation where my boyfriend was standing with flowers. It was just perfect. After saying goodbye to my family, we caught up and then got Burger King for lunch!

Quote of the blog:

I agree with this quote, it is not a place that makes a home it's the people around you. I have many different homes in different places, and every one of them makes it my HOME. This includes my family, my boyfriend, my boyfriend's family, my Grandma, my aunt and family and my friends at university and Girls Brigade (Blog post to come on about this).
